I met my cat for the first time this spring.
We have lived together for 16 years.
Shocker, right?! That’s what I thought. But yeah, this happened.
Even typing this feels scary. English is my second language, I am not a writer, and part of me wants to quit right now and go make myself a nice cup of tea or snuggle with my cat instead.
So why is it so scary?
Is it because someone will read it and think, “This is a bunch of rubbish. Total waste of time”?
Or is it because I am admitting some things I have not been brave enough to say even to myself, never mind typing them out and posting them on the internet for the whole world to see?
Interesting things happen when you look straight into your ego’s face and say, “I see you.”
So here it is.
A few months ago, I discovered animal communication. I have always had some psychic abilities, and over the years new layers have revealed themselves to me. This spring, it was animal communication.
It started on Instagram, where I found someone who did animal communication for a living. I thought it was super cool, and for some reason I had no doubt that I could do it too. I just needed to learn the mechanism of connection.
She was hosting a free workshop where people could join the call and try animal communication for themselves. She led a quick meditation at the beginning, and then each of us was given an animal to connect with.
I connected right away and got so much information. I typed it all up and sent it to her, and she shared it with the animal’s caretaker for feedback. When I read that feedback, I couldn’t believe how accurate the information was.
This was exciting, so naturally, I decided to take a couple of courses.
The first thing I did was connect with my two cats: Mr. Fluffy and Valentina.
Valentina, my little Victorian princess, made me work for it. That’s a story for another day.
But Fluffy rammed into me like a truck!!!
Let me tell you something about telepathy: the amount of information that can be transferred in a millisecond is immense. Imagine trying to explain to someone what Christmas morning looks and feels like using only words. How long would that take? With telepathy, it is an instant download of all the visuals, smells, feelings, and tastes landing in your head in one little “boop”!
Animal communication works through telepathy.
So this is how I met Mr. Fluffy.
His impression of me and our life together for the last 16 years came right at me from his point of view in one “boop.” An instant download.
The first thing he said to me was:
“OMG! It’s about time! What took you so long?!”
I had to apologize for being such a slow learner. Jeez!!!
I could not believe that we had lived together for 16 years and I was only now meeting him, learning his personality and his essence for the first time. He is actually quite hilarious.
I remember thinking: WOW, Tatyana. Why did it take you so long to learn this?!
Next came pictures and feelings, realizations and shock. There were so many emotions wrapped up in it that it took me some time to unpack everything.
What I saw shocked me, humbled me, and filled my heart with so much love, all at the same time.
I saw myself in a real light: raw, unfiltered, unpolished. Not the version other people see. The version with rough edges. The version with a scared little girl inside. The girl who made bad choices.
Everything flooded in at once. I was witnessing my life over the last 16 years completely unfiltered.
There was me in my first marriage, scared and lost.
There was the moment I got my blue passport and had absolutely no idea what to do next, because I had spent so many years thinking only about that moment, becoming a U.S. citizen, that I forgot to think about what came after.
There was that one time I decided that eyebrow microblading was an excellent choice... and then spent a ridiculous amount of money getting rid of it.
There was me betraying myself over and over again so my romantic relationship would work, because my 40s were coming and I was still childless.
There was me being unkind to my cats, leaving them alone so often to spend time with a man who did not appreciate or love me. I am still apologizing for it every day.
There was me learning new things as a first-time homeowner. Mr. Fluffy was present while I replaced every outlet in the house (all 80 of them) and every light fixture. I lost count of those.
He worried that I would get electrocuted. But what would he do if that happened?
He can’t call 911!
There was me practicing my singing lessons in my underwear before bed. He calls it “Terrible Opera.”
There was me grieving my father while he was dying, and feeling guilty for not being able to be with him, care for him, or simply hold his hand.
There was me unconsciously working hard to build a relationship with the spirit of my house, showing it my full devotion by creating a beautiful sanctuary in my garden for pollinators, birds, tree spirits, and fairies.
There was me losing my entire down payment for a house to wire fraud.
There was me seriously considering moving across the country for a man.
There was me calling Terminix to investigate a fly problem, only to discover it was a melon gone bad in the pantry. So embarrassing.
And finally, there was me coming into my magic, and how Mr. Fluffy sees my aura glowing in the room. The human eye cannot see it, but animals do.
These are just some examples, with many layers in between, all revealed to me in one “boop” moment.
Seeing myself in such a raw form was jarring and unexpected.
But one thing remained constant throughout the entire experience:
The love Mr. Fluffy has for me.
For every version of me he has known.
There wasn’t a moment when his love for me diminished.
Perhaps during my Terrible Opera he was a little annoyed.
But he still loves me with all his heart.
And it is the most incredible feeling to be completely seen and completely loved at the same time.
Maybe that was Mr. Fluffy’s first real lesson for me.
I thought I was learning animal communication so I could finally understand him. Instead, he showed me myself.
Not the polished version. Not the version I present to the world. All of me.
He had watched me make terrible decisions. He had watched me stay where I shouldn’t have stayed. He had watched me grieve, struggle, grow, start over, replace 80 electrical outlets with questionable confidence, sing Terrible Opera about my day in my underwear, and slowly become the woman I am today.
And through all of it, he loved me exactly the same.
I don’t think I had ever experienced seeing myself through the eyes of someone who loved me without needing me to be different. Maybe that is why this experience affected me so deeply.
I started learning animal communication because I wanted to know what animals were thinking. I wanted to hear them. I wanted to understand them. What I didn’t realize was that once I started listening, they would begin teaching me.
About love.
About myself.
About the strange ways we humans move through our lives believing we need to become better, prettier, more successful, more healed, more spiritual, more something before we are worthy of being completely loved.
Mr. Fluffy apparently missed that memo. He has loved every version.
And this was only my first lesson.
Since then, animals have taught me about grief, boundaries, control, presence, healing, death, trust, and things I am still trying to understand.
That’s why I’m starting this blog. I want a place to tell these stories.
Not because I have all the answers. Quite the opposite.
Apparently, I have been living with one of my teachers for 16 years and didn’t even know it. So clearly, we have some catching up to do.
And if you have ever looked at your animal and wondered whether there is more going on behind those eyes than we realize...
Welcome.
